View Resource: Reed Planning Two Page Explanation June 2014
This Louisiana Recovery School District (RSD) document provides a concise and detailed description for the visioning process at Reed High School to collect community input on the future of the school. The document outlines the community engagement process, which includes steps and a timeline to achieve the ultimate goal of having a community participation in the school operator matching decision.
Outcomes and Lessons Learned: This document reflects the value of establishing clear roles and responsibilities when engaging external stakeholders in district decision-making. RSD learned that communication around school closure or replacement is an iterative process, where communication should occur early and often, particularly when engaging external partners. This community engagement process was very successful in large part because Deputy Superintendent Peterson spent an extraordinary amount of time building capacity within the review committee – this work takes time and effort.
