The Louisiana Charter School Performance Compact (CSPC), available at http://www.louisianabelieves.com/resources/library/charter-schools, describes the accountability mechanism for all charter schools authorized by the Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE). The objective of the Charter School Performance Compact is to provide charter school operators and boards with clear expectations, fact-based oversight, and timely feedback while ensuring charter autonomy. This document provides a conceptual overview of the Charter School Performance Compact; along with the specifics regarding Performance Compact implementation developed with charter school leader input.
Outcomes and Lessons Learned: This document governs the relationship between state-authorized charter schools and their authorizer. The Compact seeks to make clear the set of mutual expectations and responsibilities for both parties. It was developed in partnership with charter schools and other stakeholder groups as part of an effort to clarify and raise expectations for schools. The RSD learned that key actions for authorizers is to engage schools in developing policies, clearly state expectations, and provide easy-to-read summaries of current applicable charter law
