View Resource: School Closure Manual 2015
This closure manual walks through all of the steps that a closing school must undertake during the wind-down period in Washington DC. The intended audience is a school operator. It includes useful tools such as templates for letters home to families. There are recommended additional steps in notifying various stakeholders.
Outcomes and Lessons Learned: The closure manual with accompanying templates and sample documents serves as a step by step guide for both the authorizer and the closing school. The Closure Plan Report, included in the manual, served as a great organization and communication tool. Throughout the entire process, it allows all stakeholders to know what items have been completed and what is still outstanding. The closure manual is revised every year with learnings from the previous year’s closures. From the most recent closure process, we had several takeaways that we’re planning to implement in the upcoming closure process:
- We need to specify which deliverables are suggested vs. required.
- We need to have a more seamless document submission process instead of depending so heavily on email.
