View Resource: Continuous Improvement in Education
This white paper for the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching describes how continuous improvement has manifested in education. The authors map the continuous improvement landscape through identifying and describing organizations engaged in continuous improvement, highlighting commonalities and differences between them.
There are three type of organizations engaged in continuous improvement: those focused on instructional improvement at the classroom level; those concentrating on system-wide improvement; and those addressing collective impact. Organization descriptions and case studies accompany each organization type, as well as common themes in all three types of organizations.
The authors also make concluding observations about continuous improvement, such as organizations’ conducting continuous improvement at various levels and ways, the various entry points to continuous improvement, and that continuous improvement being both at iterative and gradual process. Additionally, several tools and artifacts are provided for organizations to use in their continuous improvement processes.
